Cranes in southern Sweden

Thousands of cranes migrate from North Africa to northern Scandinavia every spring. A fantastic sight to see. Just a pity we did not have a proper camera.

Perdekop hike

Joined the Plett Knysna hiking group for a 15 km hike at Perdekop near Harkeville.
Walking through the indigenous forest we saw the yellow wood trees, stink wood and ironwood, amongst other. Interesting information from a fellow hiker on trees.
Heard birds but not the shy Knysna Loerie. But found a feather.

Stopped for a fruit break next to a pool.
Stopped for lunch break, what a magnificent view.

Wild coast meander

IFinally got here, after years of trying to find time, the Wild Coast Meander. A fantastic hike from Mazeppa Bay to Morgan's Bay.
The map, east coast of South Africa.

The area we are hiking is the home to the Xhosa people. The tribe in this area is the Gcaleka tribe. A tribe is made up of a number of clans of one stock. A number of families make up a clan, the clans form a tribe.
First stop collecting Tessa at her home in East London.  Early morning before setting off. Clean and eager.
Porters and guides at Mazeppa

The rickety bridge to the island at Mazeppa. The tide was coming in and the waves were tremendous
Carl walking on the windswept Mazeppa beach
Arrived just in time to see this baby shark reeled in
The shark was caught by members of Durban angling club. They photograph it, measure it, tag it and throw it back in the sea
Our home in Mazeppa Bay hotel.
And the view from our room

Lunch time and pudding, jelly and custard! Have not had that for about 50 years
Wine time. R24 for this glass! That's about kr16! Price of a sip of wine in Sweden!
Beautiful scenery
First day, 21 km.
Heard about the cows on the beach.
Delight to find them.
The Nguni cows have very special markings.
Tessa found this baby shark
The cows slipped in again
View from the bedroom at Wavecrest.
Wading across a river. One of the many.
View from Wavecrest hotel superb!

Starting off from Wavecrest. New porters.
Crossing the river to Wavecrest in a canoe.
Apparently we were very lucky to see this unusual sight. Oxdrawn sled.
Carl and Tessa crossing another river.
Carl and Tessa sharing the beach with some cows.
One of our very competent guides, Dinner, with his assistant

The ship Jacaranda, wrecked off the coast about 40 years ago.
Four kilometres through a forest.

.
Our porter Patrick, collected oysters on the way and had a snack before crossing the Kei
Tessa putting shoes after a river crossing

Carl waiting for the pont suddenly notices monsters rising out of the sand. Turns our to be these crabs

Nearing the end, the last stretch close to Morgan's bay
Another canoe crossing
Party night at Trennerys

The Kei River Mouth. Last time I was here 1974
Sandy shoes
The pont arriving to take us over the Kei river

The end and best beer ever!
