Chalon-sur-Saone - Seurre 23 May

Cold. Cold. Hot shower and warm baguette is what we need.
This is 7.45 in the port, very nice, but cold. Looking for a Boulangerie. Everywhere else we have been there is a Boulangerie on every corner, here nothing. We walked the streets of Chalon in flipflops, having just had a shower, looking for a breakfast baguette! At last we met a woman coming out of a building. She kindly led us up and down some streets to a Boulangerie. She told us that on Mondays it is almost impossible to find an open Boulangerie. By this time our toes were ice blocks.
We bought two baguettes, which was just as well because we met Monica looking desperately for a Boulangerie, without success. So we saved her breakfast by giving her one baguette.
The town of Chalon, lovely, but we are not staying, on our way to Seurre today.  Lots of history in this town. It has always been an important port, even since Roman times. Ceaser chose Chalon as his winter headquarters (according to guide Fluvial). Nicephore Niepce, the inventor of photography was born here.

On the way to Seurre. The countryside is changing. Getting more flat and the Saoane is winding its way through the countryside. Some really beautiful houses on the riverbank.

Arrived in Seurre and moored next to a boat with a South African flag! Had a pleasant evening with Wally and Colleen from Ysterfontein (west coast, not far from Cape Town).

Seurre has a history of river transport.

A picturesque little town, worth visiting when the rain stops!
