Montmerle-sur-Saone - Macon 20 May

Sunshine, minimum current, only one lock, lovely easy trip to Macon today.
But what is this? A barge in full speed up the river! It will pass any minute. Better take the breakfast coffe on the jetty than rocking around in LelleBelle.
Is Carl missing work? We wonder as we pass Metso Minerals offices in Macon.
No sign to say this is Metso, but Carl has been here many times. Not missing it, he says!
Entering Macon and the only remaining stone bridge over the Saone.

Moored at a wonderful Marina about 2 km from Macon. Set off to see what Macon has to offer.
Wine festival tonight, St Vincent's church and the Wooden house is what we could manage this evening, according to the tourist office.

Borrowed two bikes from the Capitainerie and biked off to the tourist office to find out what to see in Macon.

Apparently Macon, the oldest city in France, has been ravaged by so many invasions, there is not much left to see. This is the Old St Vincent Church, rebuilt several times between the 7th and 14th century. Only the two towers and the bay that links them together have survived.

Macon wine, this needs to be tested! But since there is a wine festival tonight, we start our research right here.
People watching and wine tasting go well together. In the few hours we were here we became found of this little gentleman who kept wandering around in what looked like his best clothes.
Besides delicious wine, there was great music. First a Spanish group, then +60 grey haired gentlemen playing 60's music, in French. After that a younger group with "Smoke on the Water," a favourite which we enjoyed at George's restaurant in Bulgaria (where music is food).

Beautiful evening, promise of sunshine tomorrow. Ended the day with nightcap (Manfreds's famous coffe) on Circe, which is in the next mooring
