At last we are able to appreciate the much acclaimed French Canals. That is because the sun has come out, the clouds have disappeared and no rain in sight. Set off at 8.30 planning to reach wherever we get, but possible places Ranchot or Dampierre.
An amusing sign, probably about not throwing chewing gum on the ground.
And Carl finds a Boulangerie! Not bad work, seeing that in this town the Boulangeries are closed on Wednesdays.
Last view of Dole. The birthplace of Louis Pasteur.
And now to enjoy the beautiful French canals.
The canal joins and leaves the river .Doube every so often.
One of the weirs on the river, a bit scary, the river Doube is overflowing.
Another view, I suppose there will be many photos.
A statue of 4 ladies in Dole caught our eye.
And here ends our day's journey. We were just leaving a lock and preparing for the next one about 1 km away, when a canal employee stopped us and said we could not go any further. The reason being the Doube river is too high. So we are staying here next to the tiny village Ranchot for 1, 2 or more days ? Time to dig out the books!
Three other boats are parked here waiting for the locks to open, hopefully tomorrow. In front of us a couple, he Canadian, she Dutch, who have sailed around the world twice, the last 12 years in a catamaran. Behind a German family from Strassbourgh, with lots of valuable information about that part of France.
And go for walks to view the wildlife. We have seen quiet a lot of donkeys in France. I wonder why? Hope they don't eat donkeys?
The town, Dampierre, a cat an a lovely old house.
Sausages and salad for supper, hope for a sunny day tomorrow.
