Dannemarie - Mullhouse 2 June

We have had the company and full attention of the "elves" that is the VNF canal people, today. Opened and closed 23 locks on the way to Mullhouse. This is also where've part company with our by now good friends, the Swiss gentleman.
Even when we have the elves with us all day, in France you stop for lunch. So we were parked in a lock for the lunch hour, which was great, we needed a break.

Our elf this day was Fanny, a 3rd year law student from Mulhouse university. She followed us all the way to Mulhouse, 23 locks and two swing bridges over a 15 km distance.
Here she is an her moped.
Here at the swing bridge.
The Swiss gentleman Christian tending the ropes in a lock. He is the owner of the Le Niolu.
The rain stopped after 1 hour and we have a uneventful trip to Mullhouse.

The historical Museum of Mulhouse in this fantastic building. The town was the centre of textile industry in the late 1800. The town is littered with magnificent villas and palaces and houses of the textile barons, the upper middle class and the middle classes.
Very well preserved inner city from older days

The stunning Saint Stephens Protestant Church.
We were hunting for the speciality of the Alsatian cuisine, the Flamme Kuchen. No problem finding a reataurant with this lekker speciality. Like a pizza but with thin thin bread and creme fraise instead of tomato geg.
Another new hing we came across was small eating places called "Frittes". Fast food places of various origin.
