The Vauban barrage. The river Ill runs through the city and before the confluence with the Rhine the small river Zorn joins and this makes the old Strasbourg into an island. Vauban our old friend from canal midi has put his hand on the fortification and water management also in Strasbourg.
Same barrage from the other side. The history of Strasbourg dates back to the Celtics and Romans. The cathedral is from the 12 th century.
Strasbourg was a Free City and was not involved in the 30 year war so there are no landmarks of Swedish interference. But following the rise and fall of the superpowers of the past, Strasbourg has passed hands several times. But thanks to a strong selfperservance Strasbourg as the capital of Alsace/Lorrain has managed to keep its own identity and caracther specially with its food and whine traditions. Maybe it is also the place where the Alsathian dogs come from. Voff voff.
And now from another angle. This time from the Petit France side.
On the bridge were a group of boned Flintstone girls. A typical hen party. We saw lots of them during the evening. We were looking for a brew and some Alsatian food and wine and ended up at he Gutenberg square at Armes the Strasbourg brasserie at the same square. True alsatian food and wine. Lovely atmoesphere and good view on all the passers by. On the way back to Lellebelle we passed the gigantic Cathedral of Strasbourg and it impressed both of us.
Carl couldn't resist taking a selfie of the famous couple. Of course this is Carl's writing day for blogging.
