First a quick walk through our town Neumagen- Dhron
The church
Weingut
Weingut and about 20 more weinguts.
The town is known as Germany's oldest winemaking town. This is because it was a Roman settlement and statues of Roman boats carrying wine have been found here. This is a Roman boat loaded with barrels of wine.
Start of the hike, crossing the Mosel.
Beautiful lush forests, quiet except for birdsong.
Our town from the of the hill.
Resting at a viewing site. The view is of a Chapel built in memory of the Christians who were persecuted by the Romans, in the year dot!
The chapel is on the other side of the Mosel.
Met a couple from Belgium, been married 50 years. Carl testing his Germsn, French and Dutch on them. They walk 5 hours every day.
The 3500 year old menhir, long stone, found exactly on the district border of three communities. Interesting to read the information, especially the story about the donkey hoof!
The oldest proof of settlement in the region.
Arrived at our Mosel villa, where we stayed 25 years ago with the kids. We were returning from a holiday in Spain and stopped in Trittenheim, and never forgot it. Did not know we would be passing through by boat 25 years later. Can get a bit nostalgic for those times
