Merzig - Konz 21 June

We notice that we are eager to get onto the Mosel and are up early to get on our way. We also want to get in front of the two Luxenbourg boats who are moving too slowly!
Early morning Saar, rain today?

I have to change my opinion of the Saar. From Merzig it is very beautiful.
Charming towns along the way.
Mist on the river, a barge approaching us.
The other side of the lock, the water rushing down.
A quarry with the very red rock. Similar to the Rotfelsen in the Main.

This is what it is like in a lock, probably more that 15 metres!

Passed through the town, Saarbourg, with a Borg up on a hill.
From the boat the town looks very pleasant.
At last, the vineyards! So they do grow grapes in Saarland. The vineyards on the slopes of the hills.
Leaving the Saar and meeting a hotel boat on its way up the Saar.
The Mosel, the Mosel! At Last.
Moored in the Yachthavn in Konz, which is very close to Luxembourg , so took the train for a short visit to Luxembourg. Carl has been in Luxembourg several times to sign contracts when he was still a working man.
So he invited Leslie to the lunch restaurant he frequented with his colleagues.
Le Bistrot de la Place de Paris, good food and wine, altogether a great lunch.
So Carl is going "down memory lane" as he says and visiting the places he had business. This was the headquarters of the company Arcelor Mittal he visited. But they had moved to
this building. Carl posing outside the building. I wonder if he is not missing it a little bit?? Or just amused of the blasts from the past.

Centre of Luxembourg. An interesting city with lots of deep gorges and bridges and  streets leading all over the place. Cannot make out if they speak more French or German here, but both languages have been modified so we do not always understand.

A statue of a golden woman? No idea what it symbolises.

Our little friends in their little boat are moored next to us again, having an afternoon sleep.

Spent the evening having many laughs with Erika and company. Tomorrow we part company. They are going up the French Mosel to Nancy, where they hope the lock has reopened. Showed us photos of Constans and their boat. The water level in Constans is 2-3 metres higher than normal.
